He graduated from Spanish Fork High School and then served an LDS mission in Cleveland, Ohio where he learned Spanish; later graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science and then attended the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry receiving his Doctor of Dental Medicine after which he completed a 1 year General Practice Residency at the VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City.
He practiced General Dentistry for 6 more years primarily in Midvale and West Jordan. During this time Kirk met and married his wife, Rachel. After the birth of their second child, they moved to Tarrytown, New York receiving his surgery training from New York Medical College as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery resident. This included training at Metropolitan Hospital in New York City and at Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, New York.
Since residency, Dr. Johnson and Rachel have been living in northeast Pennsylvania where Dr. Johnson has practiced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for Geisinger Medical Center treating patients in the hospital and training resident surgeons. During Dr. Johnson’s time practicing Dentistry in Salt Lake, he met Dr. Israelsen who influenced and mentored him; often saying “Kirk, you should go back to training, become an Oral Surgeon and then join me in my practice.”
Dr. Johnson specializes in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery performing maxillofacial reconstruction, management of facial bone trauma, temporomandibular total joint reconstruction, bone grafting, dental implants, 3rd molar extractions, and IV anesthesia.
He is more than excited that this is coming to pass, and Oral Surgery Specialty is very excited to have him on board!
Since the passing of Dr. Israelsen, Oral Surgery Specialty feel so fortunate to be able to continue Dr. Israelsen’s legacy with the only oral surgeon who has trained with Dr. Israelsen for sixteen years.
